In the year 1995 on May 16, the late Mayor Mustafa Lütfi Suolcu of Kuşadası was assassinated and died there. The assassin was not held responsible for the crime. In this context, Suolcu’s family organized a memorial ceremony for thirty years that was first held and subsequently lay the ceremony over to the responsibility of then mayor Esat Altıngün since 2008 starting.
Altıngün, “I have eight years of service in Mustafa Suolcas office, I thought that he would want to close this long-lasting memory forever. In 2018, the name of the late Lütfi Suolcu was granted TRY 20 million to bust by Kuşadası Metropolitan Municipality’s extraordinary commission, which was produced by the Kuşadası Holding. In 2019, the bust was left in the demolished hut to the narrowest place where the murderer fled. Mustafa Suolcu’s bust also left the same place and met the martyrs of city walls 19 and 22.  According to the information obtained from the Municipality, a Mustafa Lütfi Suolcu's bust to the cemetery bearing the name of Suolcu.
Eleven years after the great martyrdom, M. Lütfi Suolcu’s family will fulfill their promises with a huge ceremony. During the ceremony, a monthly award bearing retired Ambassador N. Akbulut’s name will be awarded to one youth and one retired person. A family member underlined the importance of doing something every month for our country, our city, our town. The ambassador stressed that those honored should be the ones who contribute to the benefit of mankind and to the Turkish state. The award's ceremony will be held on 14 May, on the 66th Anniversary of the Republic of Turkey, which falls on May 28 for 28 years in the history of Kuşadası.
