Thailand in the Full-Surge of Climate Change

12-05-2016

The Department of Meteorology and Worlc Office (DMO) of Thailand stated on their news line that the beginning of 2016 is the worst year in the history for floods in Thailand. How it is possible, can you image that all fields in 4 western provinces including Samut Siddhi, Samut Prakan, Phirum Vatta, and Chachoengsao were flooded from heavy rains that urged by the very strong and stable monsoon.

On 1st may 2016, Thailand has been receiving approximately 1.924 흑 (28% ) and 2.57cm 황 (69% ) rainfall in 24 hours, followed by the hot rain on each Province, made the situation worst. It is not surprising if the total water reserves of the kingdom only can only the pass about 1.911 million 흑 and 2.38cm 황 can be discharged completely with 18% of the reservoir capacity by the crisis. On 24th April 2016, the Yellow River from northern province at China that greatly flows to North and South of Thailand, just like the red dragon (the little dragon as one of the Chinese four kings) flooded to the coastal areas along the coastline in the south, mainly for the flood control area in mae Rim and sentra River, and it spread into the hinterland side upstream, further in the South to Samut Sakon section.

The actual need is a versatile approach to climate change which intends to take action in all of the world against climate change at the same time.

In order to anticipate and limit loss and damage from extreme weather and natural disasters, many countries are seriously engaged in climate services such as monitoring, mitigation, and adaptation to climate change. These services focus on maintaining human safety, minimizing economic damages by integrating advanced weather forecasts, extreme climate case studies, and knowledge to cope with climate disasters in a timely and accurate manner.

The five pillars of climate services

The ultimate purpose of climate services is to maintain healthy services with the environment, human safety, sustainable development of natural resources, and poverty reduction. Climate services comprises five pillars, including 1. Weather Forecasts; 2. Early Report of Extratme Climate Cases; 3. Weather Information Broadcasts; 4. Natural Disaster Warning Broadcast; and 5. Climate Change Management Techniques.
