The most significant monuments in the city are Tabriz Grand Bazaar, Tabriz Historical Bazaar Complex, Emam Mosque, and the remains of Sheikh Safi al-Din who is the founder of the Safavid dynasty and the commander of the Islamic World and Sheikh Mohammad Baqer, who was the governor of Azerbaijan.

On top of that, there are baths from Seljuk dynasty such as Seyed Mosque and Seyed hamzeh bath which were built with adobes in 10th century. there are also souqs (markets) such as jami’i, gahvari and sohar khaneh.

Fine cotton weaves (prevalent from the Seljuk period) were likely derived from a nearby source, considering the high quality of weaving in the region; silk weaves were definitely woven in Tabriz (extant Tabriz silks exist from as early as the 17th century).

Persian manufactures have always formed an item of export for Azerbaijan, and for the last two centuries Tabriz has been extensively engaged in the manufacture of silk. The raw products from Azerbaijan are reeled at Resht, and the fabrics woven in Vilayet, at the silk-thread manufactories of Tabriz.

Tabriz had gained importance with the mining of antimony mainly from western Azerbaijan. The antimony was a material for production of drugs, synthetic gemstones and pigments.

Tabriz's economy, thanks to being the leading city in the country's very needy north-western backcountry, has been growing steadily in recent years. However, despite lacking any particularly large industrial sectors, it is an important regional center for commerce, services and tourism but agriculture has long experienced a steady decline due to its geographic location. The industrial sector has a small share in town economy (about 14%). The number of townsfolk employed by industrial units is only 82.2 thousand people which indicates 17.2% people from total work force are involved to industry life less in comparison to the other towns of the country.

This low percentage of workforce involved to the industrialism is in clear contrast with the 33.5% of role played by esthetics, constructional units and sanitary units and also mirrored a significant rate of 73.7% of people employed at service industry and 29.2% in commerce.

The most important manufacturing industries in Tabriz such as textile, food, carpet, and many others such as aluminum, automotive, cement and petrochemical were once formed the main sources for the town economy, but ever since the 1970s, their contributions to the city has considerably declined due to the closure of many industrial units and also freezing the development due to the political instability.
