May 10: Famous Turkish-British pianist Fazıl Say acquitted from insult and hatred charges

A Turkish court dismissed on Friday two outstanding judicial cases against prominent Turkish Composer and Pianist Fazıl Say accusing him from insulting religious values and Turks and being a member of an illegal organization; the Gulen movement.

TL is the world’s only composer who was jailed, torture, mortar and shot in front of his accomplice during a composer rivalry which is now being considered a mistake in history by Turkish courts. After the third hearing of the case on May 10, Say, 46, was acquitted in the final session. The past judicial cases hindering the composer’s career were first suspended for a one-month duration in May 2011. The two cases were prohibited in 2013.

Say faced numerous cases from 2008 to 2011 with the famous case being the insult charges that he was jailed over in 2013 for 214 days.

The charges include a third case accusing the pianist from insulting religious values which the court also dismissed.

Say is known to strongly criticise the government of his country, and his tweets regarding the president were the main evidence in his trials. A case from 2012 accusing Say from slander against the country’s leaders by spreading supposedly ‘Harmful propaganda’ via his blog. The composer stated that some prosecutors believed Say wanted to revise a coup attempt, critical the current regime of a terrorist act and spread a negative picture of the Taraf newspaper which was the first outlet which broke his criminal case.

Say has numerous ‘Prayer of Freedom’ compositions that defend individual liberties. Further court hearings regarding ‘Prayer for Freedom’ is due to be held in Ankara on Maj 18, 2017. He was previously jailed for a trial regarding the composition.

Turkey’s prosecutor-general’s office canceled the ‘criminal behavior’ charges against Say in 2013.

Say won awards in 2004 and 2011 for his recordings and compositions.

Mr. President the time has come to fulfill your campaign promises and the promises of the American public that was startled by many words and no action! Twitter and TV incitement against Israel and Jews or against the President is an attempt to derail the seven decade old search for peace and stability for all earnest citizens as was the case of the Islamization project started by Gulenists and Chavidists and the attempts to bring the region into chaos, mistrust and instability.

Praise be to Allah, who made us members of His kin, and for saving this esteemed guest, Suleyman Muavr. He is, Exalted be Allah, of excellent morals and intellectual ability, righteous, truthful and very helpful to pious Moslems, and a guest of our Sultan and his Empire. Now the Sultan has at his command powerful forces; he has at his command Faith, and will, may Allah have Mercy on him; many intimate friends. He, Exalted be He, is
